Our Milk & Where to Buy

Why you should buy our unique milk
Unhomogenised
Because our milk is unhomogenised, the milk fat is left in its most natural, least processed state, allowing a thick cream layer to settle to the top. Give it a shake if you prefer!
Organic
Contains up to 50% more benficial omega-3 fatty acids due to the outdoor grazing and clover-rich diets.
Organic farming uses no pesticides or artificial fertilizers.
Nature-Friendly
We love the nature on our farm as much as we love our cows and we were proud to be recognised for being the best in the country for our commitment to nature-friendly farming, winning the FWAG Silver Lapwing Award.
Shorthorn Cows
Our Dairy Shorthorn Cows are native to the North of England and have been on our farm for over 150 years.
They thrive in our landscape and excel in an organic system, being hardy and great converters of grass to milk.
Produced Without Antibiotics
Unlike some organic milk, we have gone the extra mile to become certified as PWAB.
Diverse Pastures and Meadows
We believe that cows should be outside, grazing a diverse, nutrient rich diverse diet,
which also benefits soil health, wildlife and drought resilience.
Large, Scrowy Hedgerows
We have miles of ancient hedgerows, traditionally managed to benefit wildlife,
as well as providing natural shelter and extra food for our cows.
Small Family Farm
Just from our cows, not from a mix of anonymous farms.
Assuring you of where your food is coming from whilst supporting local jobs
Green Energy
Approximately half our farm is powered by our roof-top solar
and we will be delivering in our own electric-powered van.

Where to Buy our Milk

These companies love the way we farm alongside nature
and are keen to have our milk on their shelves.

Our Choice of Bottle

Over the years, we have had so many people ask where we can buy our milk,
so we wanted to reach as many people as possible.
Booths are the perfect fit, their stores cover the whole of the North West.
Because we are selling this way, we need a non-returnable bottle.
Finding the right packaging is important to us as we feel that milk is generally not valued
for the quality, nutritional product that it is, with little thought to its place on a shelf,
even being sold cheaper than water!
We have spent months choosing the right bottle for our milk and we can safely say that at the moment there is no perfect milk packaging solution out there, but please know that we have put great thought into this, wanting a premium look, whilst being easily recyclable at home and made using recycled material. We are still looking to improve what we have!

Things we have tested ...
Pouring & Robustness
We have tested various bottles for their pourablility.
Our bottles feel really nice to pour and the tethered lids do not get in the way or spin mid pour.
Material
We wanted 100% recyled plastic, but found that this was tinted, which made the milk look an unappetising grey.
We compromised by choosing 30% rPET,
which are crystal clear, enabling the customer to fully appreciate the natural cream layer.

Aluminium - We commissioned a viability study into aluminium bottles with Strathclyde University,
but found that although great for recycling, the pricing was way beyond what is achievable for milk bottling.
The wide-necked bottles that we needed are currently not in production.
Maybe in the future, the technology and machinery will be there to produce cheaper bottles en masse.

Glass - Looks smart and is nice to use, but it is heavy to carry in shopping bags,
being over 400g in weight empty! This also means that transport is less energy effecient and
much more energy demanding to manufacture and recycle. A glass bottle needs to be re-used at least 20 times for it to be more environmentally friendly than plastic.
Also in using glass, if we broke one in production, we would have to ditch the whole batch of milk.

Cartons - The milk is not visible, machines are very large and cost a small fortune, so not viable for our small dairy.
The cartons are also not easily recyclable, with only one dedicated recyled plant for this packaging in the UK.

We are still looking to improve sustainability!
